JAZZY CHARLES is an American born Afro-Cuban visual & performing who isartist connecting back to Cuban, Black American, and Indigenous American roots by making new physical artifacts and musical compositions that illustrate how we are shaping culture with (and without) ancestral knowledge and recorded truths. Through painting she opens conversations about time and human history that require love and logic to discourse; in tandem, her music practice practice has evolved over a decade into a uniquely jazzy meditative medicinal experience. Although seperate because they are practiced in seasons, music and painting energetically water each other.
Jazzy is currently on live performance and composition break to focus on completing an ambitious body of spiritual beaded paintings in preparation for her first official solo exhibit, an endeavor that seems to be taking about 3 years. The way she feels about music, this is an incredibly difficult choice but the art is channeling through and it needs its time.
